🔍 Click to Expand: Air Purifying Respirator (APR) Training Overview

The ACTI Air Purifying Respirator (APR) Training Program is designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills required to correctly use APRs, ensuring compliance with OH&S regulations, CSA standards, and industry best practices.

Participants will learn how to identify respiratory hazards, select appropriate respirators, ensure proper fit, and conduct user seal checks. The course covers regulatory requirements, respirator types, fit testing, maintenance procedures, and emergency response.

📌 Key Learning Modules:

  • Legislation & Worker Responsibilities: Understanding OH&S regulations, CSA standards, and employer/worker obligations.
  • Hazard Recognition & Risk Assessment: Identifying airborne contaminants and assessing respiratory risks.
  • Respirator Selection: Choosing the right respirator based on hazard type (full face, half face, disposable).
  • Filtration & Cartridge Types: Understanding particulate vs. chemical filtration and the use of cartridges.
  • Fit Testing & Seal Checks: Ensuring proper respirator fit through qualitative and quantitative fit testing.
  • Respirator Maintenance & Storage: Cleaning, storing, and replacing filters or cartridges.
  • Emergency Response: Recognizing warning properties, dealing with respirator malfunctions, and ensuring safe egress.

✅ Upon Completion:

Upon successfully completing the ACTI Air Purifying Respirator (APR) Training Program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply OH&S regulations, CSA standards, and worksite-specific respirator requirements.
  • Recognize airborne hazards and select the appropriate APR for protection.
  • Properly inspect and use air-purifying respirators, including half-face, full-face, and disposable masks.
  • Perform fit testing (qualitative and quantitative) and conduct proper user seal checks.
  • Maintain and replace filters and cartridges according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Develop and execute emergency response plans in case of respiratory hazards or equipment failures.
  • Pass a written knowledge assessment (minimum 80%) and successfully complete the practical evaluation.

Participants who meet all course requirements will receive an ACTI Air Purifying Respirator Certification, recognized across Canada, ensuring they are qualified to work safely in environments requiring respiratory protection.
